Human Rights Watch estimated that since 1987 over 20,000 children have fought as soldiers in the Ugandan governments war with rebels in northern Uganda. Most of the child soldiers fought for the LRA, but the Ugandan government has had 12 year-olds serving with security units protecting villages.
